My cousin Jess Koz and his dad Manual have owned this 1950 Dodge Meadowbrook for some time now. Not to long ago they joined us on one of our trips to the Pomona Swap Meet. They were in search of skirts, wiring, and some extra kool parts for their Dodge. The Dodge sat around, they talked about selling it, needed too much work, not enough time, along with other priorities. The usually things that can put a project on hold or on Craigslist.

Lucky my cousin never got rid of the car. A few months back, he was telling me about a cruise night they have at the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs every first Saturday. The event is put on by the Palm Springs Cruisin Association. He mentioned I should come down before it got to hot. There was a nice mix of hot rods, originals, lowriders and kustoms at the cruise. This was my cousins first event with the car. His dad, son and nephew joined him. He received nothing but love from the everyone at the show. It was good to hear him excited about the old Dodge again. The next day they started to work on the car, plans are underway and we look forward to them joining us on our next swap meet trip.

Las Vegas to Pomona

I woke up at 1:30am that Sunday morning (no Sunday Slackin) to get ready. Ben, Xman and Jose were on their way to pick me up. Picked up snacks, dropped in $80 in gas and hit road around 2:30am. We rolled to Pomona to find more parts for Xman’s 1964 Impala and maybe I’d get lucky and find something. Around 6:00am we hit Starbucks and by 6:30am we were walking into the fairground. Ben had the first purchase by 6:40am. So far, so good. Our last trip, Xman got lucky, he found everything he was looking for. I on the other hand, I haven’t been as lucky. Hard to come by cool stuff for my Buick or parts for my 250 straight six.

We posted up with Miguel from Desirable Ones Car Club, Trucha Car Club and Miguel’s homie who makes the vintage color bars and reverbs. If you don’t know what this is, do a google search, kool stuff. Xman picked one up, another perfect find at Pomona. It was a great day to grill carne asada and tossing back a few cold ones. We rolled out around 2:00pm and drove to pick up more parts. Couldn’t of planned it better. We met a vendor that had some other parts X needed that we didn’t find at the swap meet. And he lived in Pomona, on our way out. Plus he got it at half the price we thought he’d have to pay.

This is where the good story goes south. On our way out we hit up Famous Dave’s. Decided to sit and order at the bar, should go quick. We figured that by 6 or 7 we’d be back in Vegas. 50 mins later, no food. Everyone around us, even those that came after us at the bar all had their food. One waiter comes by and asks if we want to order. WTF, really. 5 mins later we are eating at Farmer Boys. Full and happy we hit the road. We needed to make one last stop. Can’t leave Cali without picking up something for the women in our lives. Cruised by San Antonio Winery and picked up some vino.

6:30pm. Gas, lotto tickets and the long road back to Vegas.
