Brown Dog Welding is the product of Josh’s passion. What began as a profession has become something much more. It is an evolving entity as I continue to grow as a metal worker and as an artist. Welding, when done right, is an art form unto itself, and I enjoy challenging myself to raise the bar.

Brown Dog Welding is a one man welding and fabrication shop located just north of Detroit in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.

The name for my business comes from combining two of my loves: welding and my dog Woodson! My wife Darla and I rescued him from a no kill shelter in December of 2002. He is a wonderful mutt, part Boxer and part American Staffordshire Terrier. It saddens and angers me to see the insane number of “bully breed” dogs that are backyard bred, abused, fought, and neglected. You can walk into any animal shelter in America and find a swelling number of these misunderstood animals standing on death row. And now with the economic woes that are striking our country, especially in our great state of Michigan, pets of all shapes and sizes are being abandoned at an alarming rate. We, as humans, domesticated these creatures. We have a responsibility to care for and protect them.

At least 10% of Brown Dog Welding’s profits will be split between Home Fur-Ever (www.homefurever.com), where we found Woodson, and Lifebuilders, a non-profit organization in Detroit. If you are interested in making any additional donations please contact Josh, and he can direct you to the proper people!

The roots of my love for welding first dug in when I was a millwright apprentice for Chrysler. I struck my first arc in November of 2002, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I was very fortunate to be in a situation where I could learn from Journeymen who had decades of experience in all sorts of welding, and who were more than willing to share their knowledge with me. From tig welding tool steels to stick welding in structural applications and using a mig welder for general fabrication, not to mention everything in between, I’ve been able to develop and hone my skills in a variety of processes and settings. I currently hold a variety of tig and stick welding certifications, and I test for additional qualifications routinely.

Brown Dog Welding is the product of my passion. What began as my profession has become something much more. It is an evolving entity as I continue to grow as a metal worker and as an artist. Welding, when done right, is an art form unto itself, and I enjoy challenging myself to raise the bar.
